The apprentice-ratio check reads 1-to-5 the right way round

Labor Code §1777.5 sets the apprentice ratio from both sides: no more apprentice hours than your apprenticeship program's standards allow, and never fewer than one apprentice hour for every five journeyman hours. Our check had the 1-to-5 backwards and treated it as a ceiling. A crew of a foreman, a journeyman and one apprentice read Over ratio on the payroll run and the Compliance tab, and a crew that never used an apprentice read clean.

What it does now:

  • The 1-to-5 minimum shows on the Compliance tab as Below 1:5 so far when a craft is behind. You owe it by the end of the job, so it's a heads-up, not a red light, and a single timecard or payroll week never fails it.
  • The maximum is your program's ratio. Until it's entered for a craft, only the case no program allows is flagged: apprentices on the clock with no journeyman hours.

If your Compliance tab went red over the apprentice ratio, look again. That warning was wrong.
